FAQS

Why Psychotherapy?

Understanding and transforming overwhelming thoughts, emotions, and behaviors is not something most people can accomplish on their own. Psychotherapists are trained to help individuals gain insight and clarity into the source of their unwanted and unhealthy patterns, freeing them to live more satisfying and fulfilling lives.

According to research in infant-caregiver interactions, we learn how to be in the world from our earliest relationships. Some degree of misattunement—a parent or caregivers lack of awareness or sensitivity to a child’s emotional needs—is common. With the guidance of a psychotherapist, it is valuable to explore conscious and unconscious aspects of body, emotions, thoughts, and energy that may be reactions to this misattunement. It is important however to avoid perceiving psychotherapy as blaming our parents. Rather, we strive to understand and acknowledge how emotional misattunement may have affected our perception of ourselves and influenced our relationship patterns. As one feels a sense of attunement in the therapeutic relationship, psychotherapy can be a reparative experience.

Embarking on a journey of psychotherapy is an investment in your future and a commitment to your well-being. Finding a therapist with whom you feel safe and can openly collaborate with is a critical first step. If you’d like to explore how we might work together, please don’t hesitate to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation.

I am an out-of-network provider. Many clients I work with receive out of network reimbursement from their insurance.

You are responsible for paying my fee after each session and I will provide you with an invoice(or super bill) on a monthly basis for you to submit to your insurance provider. Many insurances do reimburse for out-of-network services. Please check with your insurance provider for the details of your coverage. When contacting your provider be sure to ask the following questions:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health coverage?

Please contact me if you would like assistance in clarifying your insurance benefits.

What is the benefit of paying out-of-pocket for my psychotherapy?

The benefit of not going through your insurance company is that your psychotherapy treatment is completely confidential and your mental health diagnosis will not be documented in your health record. The treatment will be determined by you and me without any restrictions from your insurance company.

Typically, we will set up a weekday and time to meet weekly. To get the maximum treatment benefit from psychotherapy, I recommend weekly appointments, but under some circumstances meeting every other week is a possibility.
